Review Policy & Rating System

Last Updated: 07 May 2017

Hi publishers, authors, promoters, and #awesomenerds!

The Book Blvd accepts book review requests to be posted on this blog and promoted on different social networking sites - including Instagram and Pinterest.

If you have a book you would like us to review, please take some time to read our review policy and check our rating system. Then, you can fill out our review request form here and we'll get in touch with you immediately.

Book Review Policy

A dedicated team of reviewers reads and rates your books. We make an effort to match your genre to a person who has strong interest in your genre. Each finished review will have a byline and a link to the profile of the reviewer.

We keep our reviews 100% honest and unbiased. We cannot assure that you get a positive review all the time, as it is just natural for anyone to have negative comments about any publication. We stand by our opinions, so we will not accept any review revisions. We also do not accept any compensation for our reviews, aside from the free copy we occasionally obtain from the requesting party.

We review a wide array of genres. Our readers are fond of different book genres and it is part of our mission to deliver great content for everyone. Hence, we have a long list of genres welcome for reviews, and that includes the following:
  • Chick Lit
  • Children's Literature
  • Contemporary
  • Crime Fiction
  • Fantasy
  • Historical Fiction
  • Horror
  • Mystery
  • Magical Realism
  • Memoir
  • Romance
  • Science Fiction
  • Self-Help
  • Thriller
  • YA Fiction
We love working with self-published authors and indie publishing houses! Please don't hesitate to contact us!

We accept ARCs, eARCs, finished copies, ebooks, and epubs. We have to tell our readers how we got a copy and what kind of material you sent us.

Spoiler-free and with spoilers. Whichever you prefer, we can do.

We work on a review for 2 to 8 weeks. This is a realistic time frame that we have set for our reviewers. We will publish a review immediately once it is finished, polished, and ready for our readers.

Book Rating System

We use two rating systems for our book reviews - Yay or Nay and the number system.

Yay or Nay
This one is kind of easy to understand. It basically tells our readers if we liked the book or not. Books with a "Yay" are highly recommended, while those with a "Nay" are not.

Number System
Since the Yay or Nay system is a bit broad and vague, we also include the usual star scoring of 1-5, with 5 being the highest.

We give scores to different aspects of the book and another score for the overall rating of the book.

The ratings found on the aspects will give our readers a glimpse of how good a certain aspect is, and an explanation of the rating would follow on the body of the article.

The score for the overall rating of the book does not necessarily mean the average score of the aspects. It is how our reviewer rates the book as a whole. Here is a short guide for reference:

1 - Very poor. This rating is given to books with troubled writing, boring plots, very poor character development, and no redeeming quality whatsoever.

1.5 - Poor. This rating is given to poorly written books, but has a single strength or two.

2 - Good, but may not good enough for everyone. This is given to books that have a lot of areas for improvement, but is already appealing to a small pool of readers - probably die hard fans of a certain genre or author.

2.5 - Good. Books with this rating still have a lot of area for improvement, but have several good points that readers will love. It may also have a good redeeming factor, like promising plots in the sequels or good intentions with the message clearly and effectively delivered.

3 -  A good and enjoyable book. It may not have much impact on the reader and trigger a few pet peeves, but it is guaranteed to give anyone a good reading experience.

3.5 - A good and enjoyable book that leaves an impact to readers. These books leave readers in a book hangover, even though it still has a few things to improve.

4 - Excellent. This rating is given to books that is impressive for a lot of readers, even those who are not fans of the genre. Weaknesses of these books can easily be overlooked.

4.5 - Close to perfect. This rating is given to books with more strengths that weaknesses.

5 - Perfect, nothing less. Stunning, stellar, and memorable. It has everything that a good book needs to make readers crave for more, anticipate the sequel, and make an effort to make their friends read the book.
